Program Extensions
Program extension requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and are subject to school, program, class, and homestay availability.
Students interested in extending their program with Comox Valley Schools can submit the form below as early as possible to begin the review process. A parent or legal guardian must support the request before it can be reviewed.
Submitting a request does not guarantee approval.
How the Extension Process Works
1. The parent or legal guardian confirms the request
Before we begin reviewing an extension, we need confirmation that the student’s parent or legal guardian supports the request.
This confirmation gives us permission to begin the review process. It does not mean the extension has been approved.
2. We review availability and eligibility
Once we receive the parent or guardian’s confirmation, our team will contact the relevant departments to determine whether the extension can be accommodated. Depending on the student’s circumstances, this may include confirming:
- School approval and available space
- Program eligibility
- Homestay availability
- Medical insurance requirements
- Any additional fees or documentation
3. We provide the final decision
After all required departments have completed their review, we will confirm whether the extension has been approved.
Students, parents, and agents should not make travel arrangements or assume that the student can remain in the program until written approval has been provided.
Why We Follow This Process
An extension requires coordination between several teams, including the student’s school, the international program, and the homestay department.
In the past, these teams sometimes completed a full extension review before the parent or guardian had decided whether the student would stay. When the family later declined the extension, that work was no longer needed and could create confusion about the student’s plans.
Confirming the family’s interest first allows us to review genuine requests more efficiently. It also helps us provide families and agents with clearer, more accurate decisions.

Please submit requests as early as possible. Reviews involving multiple departments may take time, and accommodation cannot be guaranteed.
Extension Fees per Month
- Tuition: $1,520
- Homestay: $1,250
- Medical insurance: $110
Additional costs may apply depending on the student’s circumstances ie. dietary accommodation. Any applicable fees will be confirmed during the review process.
When Should I Submit an Extension Request?
There is no fixed deadline for submitting an extension request. The general rule is: the sooner, the better.
Each request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis and depends on factors such as school approval, program eligibility, class availability, and homestay availability. Submitting your request early gives our teams more time to review these details and gives you the best chance of approval.
We cannot guarantee that an extension will be approved, especially if the request is submitted at the last minute. As the requested extension date approaches, school space, classes, homestay placements, or other required arrangements may no longer be available.
